New Friends
This morning Louis and I left Baba to take care of the lawn work at home and drove 50 minutes to visit with our new friends Ewen and Amy. Amy and her husband, Jon, brought Ewen home from China last summer, and she and I have been stalking each other online via our blogs and Facebook. (You can see Amy's blog here.) Somewhere along the way we realized we lived close enough to connect in person, and we finally found a day that worked for everyone--or at least the moms and boys--to meet at a fast-food play space and do lunch.
Louis talked about Ewen the whole time we were driving up, and he was really excited to meet him. Ewen is not quite a year older than Louis, and they have plenty in common. As is typical of their age, they didn't play with each other as much as near each other, and they ran out of conversation topics before Amy and I did, but we all had a great time.
Not that it's surprising that Internet connections could turn out so well. After all, John and I met online seven years ago, and that turned out beautifully. Besides, I felt like I already knew Amy (in fact, my mother was surprised tonight when I mentioned this was the first time we had met). Even so, I couldn't have guessed that she would be so kind that she wouldn't even mention on her blog how I dramatically spilled a Sprite all over the restaurant. Thank goodness I was the only one who remembered a camera. ;)
Here are a few photos from our morning together:

Here is the proof that our play date was a complete success (and Amy tells me Ewen did the exact same thing):

When we got home, Louis decided he had napped long enough. He helped Baba with the lawn...

Made a Play-doh moustache...
And made paper airplanes with Baba.
It was a terrific spring Saturday and Louis thoroughly enjoyed himself before crashing early in the evening.
We can't wait to see our new (well, sort of new) friends again soon!

I love the pics, even though it was all you could do to even get them in the same shot! And you got the HUGE ice creams they had at the end. We had such a great time and can't wait until the next time we meet. I've already got the next few years mapped out w/ trips to Hersheypark, Baltimore aquarium, parks, DC, etc, etc! Ha,ha!
ReplyDeleteI didn't even tell my husband about the spilled Sprite. ha,ha! Those things are excusable when you have a toddler in tow! :)
We can't wait for our next play date, whether in Pennsylvania or Maryland! It was very kind of you not to mention the spilled Sprite--definitely not the first time I've spilled something since we welcomed Louis into our lives! :) We'll be thinking of you and Ewen on Tuesday and praying his surgery goes well. We will be excited to see you again soon.
