Are we ready for the beach?
Louis knows we're headed to the beach this summer because his father has been talking about it for a while. OK, since January. Lately, though, when Louis says, "Beach," he has started adding, "When?"
Not soon enough, I tell him. We still have quite a wait. Not as long as a when-will-the-Travel Approval-arrive kind of wait, but much longer than a when-will-Mama-finish-cooking-that-egg-for-my-breakfast wait.
If there's anything we should know how to do by now, it's how to occupy ourselves while waiting. So we signed Louis up for our local library's summer reading program to get a free T-shirt and a beach ball. Even when you have an inflatable swan that has traveled to China and back with you, you can never have enough inflatable beach toys.
When we picked up the beach ball yesterday, Louis let me start filling it with air, but he wanted to try to blow it up himself.
When that didn't work, he decided to use it as a pillow instead.
And even though he has already read (or, technically, sat through) enough books to win the T-shirt and the beach ball, he isn't going to stop reading. Here he is using his foot to pat the bunny.
Yes, that's our boy!
Today I saw flip-flops in his size and decided we'd give them a try. I don't want Louis running around in flip-flops all the time, but I like the idea of having them for the beach. Louis was excited, partly because he loves new shoes and partly because Baba has flip-flops. John greeted us when we got home, and he offered to put them on while Louis was still in his seat.

We weren't sure Louis would like walking in them, but he was cautious and happy.
Yup, as Louis would say. We're ready to go to the beach!
We just have to wait another month. And a few days.

ReplyDeleteThey're fun, aren't they? :)
ReplyDeleteBeach trip...how fun! We're supposed to go to the beach next month, too. You might remember we live on the Gulf Coast & that's the beach area we're headed to. Unfortunately, the plans for our trip are *tentative* now, depending on how bad the oil is where we're going. :( Which beach are you guys headed to?
ReplyDeleteI hope the beach will be clean and you can go, Jennifer! We are headed to one of the Delaware beaches, so I'm hoping it will be pretty clean. It will be fun to see how our kids enjoy the sand and waves, won't it? :)
