Happy Birthday to Louis!

Today is our son's second birthday! We hope Louis had a wonderful day with his foster family, enjoying his favorite foods and activities--whatever those might be!

When we received our referral Jan. 4, we never imagined we would celebrate Lou's birthday without him home. Yet, here we are, in the final stage (we hope) of our wait to bring home our little boy. So it has been a day of a little disappointment, since we don't know how Louis is doing or how soon we will travel. Still, we are happy to know that soon Louis will be with us, his forever family.

We weren't sure how to celebrate Louis in his absence. In the end John painted dining room trim while I baked an oatmeal cake which fell completely apart coming out of the pan. I tried to hide my failure with M&Ms and some of the toys John won from the 10-cent claw machines on the Boardwalk this weekend. It's a good thing we had a trial run with the cake this year. Next year Louis will surely have higher expectations!

Happy birthday, Louis! We feel blessed to have the chance to be your parents, and we can't wait to celebrate many more birthdays together as a family!
