Six more things about Louis

In honor of Groundhog Day, and the six more weeks of winter we are facing, here are six more things we have learned about Louis:

1. He wants to help and he is delighted to follow our instructions. He has started clearing the table after dinner. He loves to return items to the refrigerator and throw things in the trashcan. (Here, he is carrying bread on his train.)

2. His love for trains now includes real trains. He saw his first one this morning and he was in silent awe while it was passing. After we saw the end of the train disappear, he talked on and on about it. Tonight when John came home and asked about the train we saw, Louis started describing it and used hand motions to show which direction the train came from and how it moved by. I wish I had recorded that conversation. (We couldn't understand the words Louis was using, but you could tell what he was saying.)

3. His affection for books continues to grow. Tonight when John got him out of the bathtub, they cleaned the tub, and John was talking about getting rid of "the ring" around the tub. I said, "Rings on fingers, rings on thumbs" (a line in Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb, which Louis wants to read every day--usually multiple times). Without missing a beat, Louis said the next line, "Drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum, drum."

4. He makes his wishes known. When I hadn't started cooking by 5:30 p.m., Louis didn't fuss, scream, or point to the fridge. He walked into the kitchen, opened a cabinet, pulled out a pot and pan, and carried them over to me. Needless to say, he got a fried egg for his trouble--and he ate every bit. (And how happy am I that he doesn't point to the freezer or the phone so I can call for a pizza....)

5. He can play independently. I was disappointed that no one in our church playgroup showed up on Monday, but Louis couldn't have cared less. He loves children, but he also loves having a roomful of toys to himself!

6. He has a terrific sense of humor. This morning when we were in the bathroom, he picked up a hairbrush and pretended to brush his teeth. I think this also shows that he gets that the words are similar. (I realized that although I put the video of Louis learning the fistbump explosion from his father on Facebook, I never posted here, so I am including that in today's entry. This really shows his sense of humor.)
