A Lot for a Tot
This morning we took Louis for his first American haircut! He behaved beautifully, sitting on Mama's lap and accepting first one lollipop and then another when the first one hit the floor. He was interested in watching Baba get a haircut before he got his, but he was especially excited by the singing fish on the wall. Afterward, though, when we went to grab some lunch, we (and everyone around us) realized Louis was itchy and miserable from the cut hair that had fallen down his shirt. We whisked him off to Grandma and Grandpa's house for a quick bath and a change of clothes (note that Mama had an emergency outfit, having learned something this week).
To make up for the misery of dealing with the cut hair, we took Louis for a walk in the stroller to meet a friend in my childhood neighborhood. Then we went to the neighborhood Tot Lot, and set Louis free! He ran across the grass (and a lot of mud), giggling freely, as soon as we got there. He slid down the slides, as we knew he would, but he loved the swing even more, throwing his head back and laughing non-stop.
When it came time to leave, John couldn't get him out of the Little Tikes car he was driving, so John started walking away and said, "Bye-bye." Louis waved back at him and said, "Bye-bye." He had no intention of leaving. He was upset when we put him back in his stroller, but John pointed to a sign and explained that the park closed at dark, and everyone would be going home. We're not sure how much Louis understood, but he stopped crying and settled down. I don't think he really understood John, but maybe I'm wrong. I think he gets quite a bit, but sometimes it's hard to tell.

Gregory LOVED the singing fish at that barbershop!
ReplyDeleteI could be wrong, but I think Ewen understood nearly everything almost from the beginning. I know, it sounds weird, but I really believe he did! I think he understands quite a bit, even if he can't express himself yet.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right, Amy. He seems to get a lot of what we say, even if he can't respond with English words.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving your updates. :) You guys look so happy together.
ReplyDeleteWhat a handsome fellow!! Thanks for the holiday card. Can't wait to see you guys.
