Bursting Bubbles

Finally warm weather has arrived here--at least for now. And at last Louis was able to try the green bubble wand he received it at his friend Julie's birthday party. He has been pleading with us to play with it since the party, which was Saturday.

He started with the traditional bubble blowing experience, and I realized how much he has matured since our last bubble play.

At first, Baba held the bubble juice to try to preserve it for as long as possible.

They made a good team, and Louis happily returned again and again to replenish the wand after a circle around the yard.

After a day of indoor play, Louis was happy to be free.

He ran...

...and ran...
...and ran.

Then suddenly he stopped.

"This is a good place," he said and sat down on the grass by the pear tree.

A good place for what? I wanted to know. For bubble blowing--which seemed to have taken a backseat to the laps around the tree? For a picture?

Apparently, that wasn't what Louis had in mind.

Still, he decided to treat me to a cheese smile, if only so we could get back to the matter at hand: running.

And so we ran. Louis became a monster and chased Mama and Baba. Then we were all monsters chasing one another. Then suddenly the game changed and we were all pirates sprinting around the tree.

He may look like a Jedi knight here, but he's actually a pirate admiring his sword in its sheath.

When I looked back over my photos, I was surprised to realize they showed very few bubbles. We created plenty of bubbles, but the memories were more of the running-in-circles, outdoor-fun style.

Still, our pirate at play was content. He stood, straight and tall as an Olympic bubble-wand-bearer might stand, and yelled out for the neighborhood to hear, "Aarrgh, matey!"

Yo ho ho and a bottle of bubble juice.

  1. Mary and Paul played pirate outside yesterday. What is it about nice weather that causes pirate play?

  2. Such fun! He really does look like an Olympic medalist in that last picture. Too bad more of them don't yell "Aarrgh, matey!" as they receive their medals. It would really add something. ;)

  3. Gotta love bubbles! And weather that is warm enough for outdoor play (but not too warm!) :)
