Terrific Twos
I love this age.
OK, so I've been saying that for almost nine months now, ever since we met our little boy in Changsha. And he's certainly grown and changed during that time. But every week is more fun than the last--and we're loving every bit.
From his first baseball game--when we only lasted about 10 minutes before heading for the car...
...to the hours we spend building train cars out of Legos...
...to the enthusiastic--and often adventurous--culinary journey he's taking us on...
...to his ability to play with anything (mini-raisin boxes are a favorite)...
...to his passion for helping Mama and Baba...
...to his determination to learn something new...

(One day he will learn to blow bubbles. And he'll learn to whistle, too.)
The terrible twos? Louis doesn't know about them, and we're not telling him.
This weekend friends came into town for a visit and the mom asked me, "How are the tantrums?" "Not bad," I said. "I think he's had five." "Total?" she asked. "Most children have five a day."
Thank goodness Louis doesn't read the parenting books.
He's too busy making new friends...
...engaging in local tourism...
...noticing everything...
...and trying to stay awake during his usual naptime so he won't miss a minute of fun.
Louis has grown so much so quickly, there's no doubt he is going on 3. And with all that we hear, "Self! Self!" when he wants to do something on his own, it's pretty clear he thinks he's going on 13.
I'll probably love that age, too. But I really, really hope it doesn't come too quickly.
After all, 2 3/4 is just terrific.
